Brian J. Brille is the President of the Asia Pacific Region for Banc of
America Merrill Lynch. Mr. Brille was previously a Managing Director and
Head of Healthcare Services Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc.
Andrew Brooks, Ph.D., is currently the Chief
Operating Officer of the Rutgers University Cell and DNA Repository (RUCDR)
and Director of the Bionomics Research and Technology Center (BRTC) at the
Environmental and Occupational Health Science Institute of the University of
Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is an Associate Professor of
Environmental Medicine and Genetics at UMDNJ/Rutgers. Dr. Brooks is a
molecular neuroscientist whose research focuses on deciphering the molecular
mechanisms that underlie memory and learning. These studies investigate
gene-environment interactions in the context of aging, neurodegenerative
disease and neurotoxicant exposure. Dr. Brooks is a well-recognized
genomicist and has been involved in the development and implementation of
cutting edge molecular based technologies for nucleic acid and protein
analyses. He has worked to automate the RUCDR and build the service entity
that provides high throughput sample management and analysis for DNA, RNA
and protein-based technologies to hundreds of labs globally.
Steven B. Epstein, Esq. is the founder of Epstein Becker & Green, P.C., one
of the largest national healthcare law firms in the United States. As a
Senior Partner of the firm, he provides health care organizations and
providers with strategic legal guidance on a range of issues and legal
challenges relating to the American health care system. Mr. Epstein
currently sits on the boards of a number of health care companies, including
Healthsense, Inc., and Management Health Solutions, Inc., both Radius
portfolio companies, and Accelion, LLC, MedExpress, Inc., Discovery Health,
Inc, HealthExtras, Inc. and Emergency Medical Services Corporation.
Scott T. Garrett is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of
Beckman Coulter, Inc., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of
biomedical tests, instrumentation and supplies. Previously, Mr. Garrett
served as Chief Executive Officer of Garrett Capital Advisors, LLC, Kendro
Laboratory Products, and Dade Behring (a spinout of Baxter International).
His prior experience also includes leadership positions at Baxter
International and American Hospital Supply Corporation.
William A. Hawkins is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of
Medtronic, Inc. Previously, he has held the positions of President and CEO
of Novoste Corporation; President of Sherwood Davis & Geck, (a subsidiary of
American Home Products); President of Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. (subsidiary
of Johnson & Johnson); President and CEO of IVAC, an Eli Lilly subsidiary,
and President of Devices for Vascular Intervention of Guidant (following its
spin-off from Eli Lilly).
Javier Lopez Madrid is an Executive Director of the Villar Mir Group, one of
the largest privately-held industrial holding groups in Spain. Mr. Lopez
Madrid is also the founder and Chairman of STH Capital, a venture capital
partnership focused on the biotechnology, financial services and
telecommunications industries.
David McGibney, MB, Ch.B., FRCP, FFPM joined Pfizer in Europe in 1982 and
was appointed head of European Clinical Development for Pfizer Central
Research in 1992. He was later named Vice President of Clinical Research and
a member of the Board of Directors of Pfizer Ltd., in 1995. Prior to leaving
Pfizer in 2001, he was Senior Vice President of Pfizer Global Research and
Development and Director of the R & D Laboratories in Sandwich, Kent, UK.
Dr. McGibney is the former Chairman of the Development Advisory Board of
Athersys, Inc., a Radius portfolio company.
James I. McLaren is a Managing Director of Asanté Partners, LLC, an
investment banking business which he founded in 1992 at EGS Securities Corp.
He is also a Member of EGS Private Healthcare Associates, LLC, a private
equity investment fund, and was formerly director of RTP Pharma, Inc., a
drug delivery company that was purchased by SkyePharma plc.
Dilip J. Mehta, M.D., Ph.D. has been affiliated with Radius Ventures since
2002. Previously, Dr. Mehta served as Senior Vice President of U.S. Clinical
Research at Pfizer, Inc., where he was responsible for Phase I, II and III
clinical research, including the design and implementation of clinical
protocols, statistical analysis, data processing, and submissions of New
Drug Applications ("NDA") for Pfizer's pharmaceutical pipeline. During Dr.
Mehta's tenure at Pfizer, he supervised NDA submissions for many of the
company's previously top-selling drugs, including Norvasc™, Zoloft™,
Zithromax™, Diflucan™ and Viagra™. Dr. Mehta previously served on the board
of Targanta, Inc., which was a Radius portfolio company, and was on the
boards of a number of U.S. and international biotechnology companies. Dr.
Mehta has also served on the board of the Psychopharmacology Advisory
Committee of the FDA.
Thomas F. O'Donnell, Jr., M.D. is the former President and CEO of the Tufts
New England Medical Center and is currently the Senior Vascular Surgeon at
Tufts New England and the Benjamin Andrews Professor of Surgery Emeritus at
Tufts University School of Medicine.
Mehmet C. Oz, M.D. is the Vice-Chairman of Surgery and Irving Professor of
Cardiac Surgery at Columbia University and directs the Cardiovascular
Institute and Complementary Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian
Hospital. He has authored five New York Times Best Sellers, over 400
original publications, book chapters and medical books, has a regular column
in Esquire and O magazines and has received several patents. For five years,
he served as the Health Expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show and is now host of
syndicated talk show, "The Dr. Oz Show" and a daily talk show on Sirius XM
Radio's "Oprah & Friends." Dr. Oz is also the founder and Chairman of
HealthCorps, a proactive health movement dedicated to educating and
empowering youth to take charge of their health.
Stephen G. Pagliuca is a Managing Director of Bain Capital and has helped
build the firm into one of the world’s leading investment companies with
more than $40 billion under management. He is the co-managing partner and
co-owner of the Boston Celtics, and serves on the corporate boards of
Hospital Corporations of America (HCA), Gartner Group, Burger King
Corporation, ProSiebenSat 1 Media AG and Warner Chilcott.
David R. Pitts has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Pitts
Management Associates, Inc. ("PMA") since 1981 and Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of PMA since 1999. PMA is a national hospital and
healthcare management and consulting firm. Mr. Pitts has over forty years
experience in hospital operations, healthcare planning and
multi-institutional organizations, and has served in executive capacities in
a number of hospitals, multi-hospital systems and medical schools. He also
serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Business First Bank of
Louisiana, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of General Health Corporation
and Chair of the Church Pension Group in New York City and is a member of
the North American Advisory Board of Sodexo. He is certified in hospital and
healthcare administration and is a Fellow of the American College of
Healthcare Executives.
Jan Rock became has been affiliated with Radius Ventures since 2002.
Previously, Ms. Rock served as Vice President of Women's Health at Johnson &
Johnson ("J&J"). At J&J, she was responsible for expanding the company’s two
billion dollar franchise in women's health products, which resulted in the
$290 million acquisition of Biopsys Medical, the $79 million acquisition of
Gynecare, Inc., and the creation of a new J&J venture, Women's First
Healthcare. Ms. Rock currently serves on the board of directors of
U-Systems, Inc., a Radius portfolio company. She has also served as a
director or observer to several venture stage companies, including Amicas,
Inc. and BEI Medical, Inc., both Radius portfolio companies, as well as
Immunicon, Inc., Protocare, Inc., and Purilens, Inc.
Vinod K. Sahney, Ph.D. is Senior Fellow at the Institute for Health Care
Improvement (IHI). His previous positions include Senior Vice President and
Chief Strategy Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts
(2006-2010) and Senior Vice President at Henry Ford Health System
(1981-2006). Dr. Sahney has been elected to both the Institute of Medicine
and The National Academy of Engineering. He has served as an Adjunct
Professor at Harvard University's Executive Program in Health Policy and
Management for the past 33 years. He has served on several Boards including
the Institute for Health Care Improvement, St. Joseph Mercy
Hospital-Oakland, Fairlane Health Services Corporation, Society for Health
Systems, Washington University School of Medicine Faculty Practice Plan, St.
Joseph Macomb Hospital, Michigan Childrens, Henry Ford, Optimeyes and
Healthsense, Inc., a Radius portfolio company. He has served on a number of
National Research Advisory Boards including AHRQ, NSF, NAE and IOM. He has
also authored two books, 50 publications and over 200 presentations at national and
international meetings. He has been a management consultant to over 30
health care organizations in the area of strategy, productivity and quality
improvement.
Leon G. Smith, M.D. is Chairman of Medicine and former Chief of Infectious
Diseases at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, NJ. He is also Chairman
of Medicine at the Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medical
Education and Professor of Preventative Medicine at New Jersey Medical
School.
Mark S. Speers is Managing Director and co-founder of Health Advances, LLC,
a strategy consulting firm focused on the evaluation and commercialization
of new medical technologies and services. Previously, Mr. Speers served as a
Partner at Bain & Company where he consulted for major health and life
sciences companies.
Arthur H. Spiegel III founded APM Management Consultants in 1974 and grew
the firm into the nation's largest stand-alone consulting firm dedicated to
healthcare. In 1996, he sold APM to CSC, where, as President, he established
and built the CSC Healthcare Group into one of the top four technology
service companies in the industry. He also served in top management
capacities for the city of New York and was one of the early leaders of
ACCION International, a community development program. He currently sits on
the boards of Accretive Health, Inc., Silverlink Communications, Inc., Sound
Inpatient Physicians, Accolade Inc. and BioStorage, Inc., a Radius portfolio
company.
Barry W. Wilson is the former Senior Vice President, International of
Medtronic, Inc. He joined Medtronic, Inc. in 1995, as President Europe,
Middle East & Africa. Previously, Mr. Wilson held executive-level positions
with American Cyanamid Company (President, International of the Lederle
Division), Bristol-Myers Squibb (President, Europe) and Pfizer. He currently
serves as Honorary Chairman of Eucomed, the pan-European medical technology
trade association, and has been a senior advisor to AdvaMed, the U.S.
medical device association. Mr. Wilson was the former Chairman of
Heartscape, Inc., a Radius portfolio company.
